The Newsfront team provided media support for WIX Playground Academy — a paid internship program for up-and-coming designers from WIX, launched for the first time in Kyiv this summer.
The Challenge
WIX Playground Academy, an educational initiative by WIX, a leading SaaS company, was launched in Ukraine for the first time. The program offered junior designers a two-month paid internship at the company’s Kyiv office.
The task was to provide communications support for the program’s launch, attract media attention, engage the local design community, and help position WIX as a brand that is open to local talent and invested in developing creative education in Ukraine.
Our Approach
The Newsfront team worked across three communication rounds:
- Phase One — preparing the audience for the internship launch. We crafted an expert column by Roee Kuperberg, Head of WIX Agency and leader of WIX Kyiv Design Hub, for MMR.ua: “Beyond the Technicality: Three Things that Make Junior Designers Stand Out.” This piece highlighted a design mindset consistent with Wix Playground, setting the right context for the upcoming announcement.
- Phase Two — announcing the program and opening applications. We created and distributed a press release emphasizing the program launch, WIX’s values as an employer, and the internship’s benefits for young designers.
- Phase Three — highlighting the program’s format and mentor expertise. We prepared a detailed follow-up release focused on the structure of the internship and the role of Ukrainian designers at WIX. The release also features commentary from Lee Kenneth, Director of WIX Playground.
All materials targeted an audience of junior designers to encourage them to apply for the Kyiv Playground Academy.
Results
- Total project reach — 500K
- Media coverage — 10 press release publications in national and niche outlets
- Expert content — an expert column by Roy Kuperberg, Head of WIX Agency and leader of WIX Kyiv Design Hub, for MMR.ua, and a column by Lee Kennett, Head of WIX Playground, for bazilik.media.
- Internship outcomes — Over 170 applications submitted, 15 selected participants
- Brand positioning — WIX reinforced its image as an employer that is open to junior Ukrainian designers and as a company that is actively investing in local creative talent.
